The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Vol 1 Akira Himekawa 9781421523279 Books
At my son's elementary school, kids can't wear costumes for Halloween, but they CAN dress up for "storybook character day" on Halloween IF they bring in a book that features their chosen character. My son is obsessed with the Legend of Zelda and wants to dress up as Link. I bought him this book so he could be "legal" in his Link costume at school. I didn't think he would actually read it. I have never been so happy to be so wrong. My eight-year-old devoured this book in less than a week. He has been waking up early to read it before school. He has been reading it before bed. In fact, he has been reading this book more than he has been playing the video games, which is unbelievable considering how hard it usually is to pry that game pad out of his hands. When he's not reading the book, he's re-telling the story to anyone who will listen.
Before I ordered, I quickly skimmed the reviews to make sure the content wasn't inappropriate, but I didn't see many comments regarding reading level. So, in case it's helpful to others, my second grader is about a 24 - 28 on the DRA. He is very comfortable reading library books that are marked 3.0 - 3.9 on the Accelerated Reader scale. His teacher sends home scholastic readers for him that are level M. He says this book is easy for him to read independently. Granted, he has played the heck out of most (if not all) of the games, so he does already have a lot of context/exposure to the story.
The font is small and all caps, but my child hasn't complained. The theme looks a little dark, but he hasn't been frightened or disturbed.
Anyway, I'm back to order the next book in the series. This was one was definitely a hit for my little Zelda fan.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Vol 1 Akira Himekawa 9781421523279 Books Reviews
I bought this for my 8 year old nephew for Christmas. He fell in love with the game series after watching me beat breath of the wild. When I found this randomly I knew I just had to grab it for him. He’s read it about six times since he received it. I’m going to have to buy him all of the other books!
My 4 year old loves all things Link and Zelda.
He LOVES this book in particular.
The art is all black and white, but really well done and easy to read out loud.
It is back to front reading- which takes some getting used to but the story is so entertaining it always has us laughing out loud.
It's about the only thing that my 4 year old sits still for. His older sister enjoys the story just as much too!
Even though I bought it for my son, I am a big fan of Legend of Zelda myself, and would read these on my own! It's great!
This was an excellent manga adaptation of the video game The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and I recommend this manga book to those who like The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
My son and I are both fans of Zelda. This was our first Manga (read back to front, right to left). To be honest, it took a few pages to get use to and break traditional reading habits but once you get sucked into the story, it's fun. I'm glad it is true to the Manga style. My son is midway through playing the Ocarina of Time on his Nintendo 3DS, so he was really into the story, which gets fleshed out in further detail here, with some liberties taken. If you, or your child like Zelda, I would highly recommend picking this up, even if you have never read Manga before. We hadn't and we've already purchased Vol. 2.
Purchased for my son for Christmas (he was 10 at the time). He literally freaked out. He loves all things Zelda, and absolutely adores these books (I bought 1 and 2). He proceeded to read both in the matter of days (and this is a kid who received video games & such too). I am writing this review 9mos later, and he still grabs them when we go on road trips, etc. Great books, and I am purchasing the next in the series soon!
We are slowly buying the complete set of Zelda graphic novels. We now own four and my Link loving pre-reader enjoys looking at the pictures. My 7 yr old avid reader was confused by the Japanese layout at first but caught on quickly (begin reading from back cover)
Got this because my daughter was allowed to dress as a "storybook character" at school for Halloween if they brought the book. It was the most affordable that seemed decent for her to read.
My only problem is that the book is bound on the opposite side (on the right instead of the left).
The covers and every page is facing the right direction, but just incorrectly bound.
My daughter is only in Kindergarten, so it's a little challenging for her to read the book "backward" but it served its purpose for wearing her Zelda costume to school.
Still gave 4 starts because I have a feeling ours was just a fluke mistake since no other reviews have mentioned it.
